School violence: why gender matters and how to measure school-related gender-based violence

This brief was commissioned in 2021 by the Global Working Group to end School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV), co-chaired by UNESCO and the UN Girls’ Education initiative. The brief builds directly on the deliberations of an expert working group, comprised of fifteen key experts.

The Expert Working Group participated in a series of virtual meetings between March and July 2021 to develop a framework to estimate the prevalence of SRGBV based on existing data. The rich discussions led to reflections on the importance of recognizing gender as a driving factor in violence, and recommendations for a range of indicators that could support this analysis.
