Jamaica Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS) summary report 2023


This report includes the main findings from Jamaica's 2023 Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS).

The Planning Institute of Jamaica led the 2023 VACS through funding from PEPFAR and technical support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of the Together for Girls global partnership. The survey implementation was carried out by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the University of the West Indies. UNICEF supported the data to action
process through a cooperative agreement through CDC funded by PEPFAR.

Some of the key findings include:

  • 23.7% of females and 11.7% of males experienced sexual violence in childhood.
  • 31.9% of females and 34.4% of males experienced childhood physical violence.
  • 37.8% of females and 31% of males experienced emotional violence during childhood.
