Every 18th of November we celebrate World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual, Abuse, and Violence.
The United Nations officially recognized this day in 2022 after decades of hard work by survivors, advocates, and allies to increase global awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence against children and mobilize action to prevent violence and support healing and justice for survivors.
In 2024, the theme for this day is "Emerging technologies: threats and opportunities for the protection of children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse."
With over 100 countries attending, the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children received a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most countries represented at a childhood violence summit!
Together, we can also break an even more important record: The world’s record of inaction against childhood sexual violence.
In the last year, 82 million girls and 69 million boys have experienced some form of sexual violence globally. This is approximately 3 girls and 2 boys per second.
In a first-of-its-kind approach, Together for Girls and partners have created a book called ‘Break the Record’ to measure and understand childhood sexual violence and offer a practical framework to end it.
This data is essential to inform evidence-based policies and interventions to ultimately end childhood sexual violence.
Help us Break the Record of inaction by using our social media toolkit to:
Share world-first data to build awareness of the record number of children experiencing sexual violence.
Share solutions to end childhood sexual violence, for good.
Take action to end childhood sexual violence, and encourage others to do so.
Visit www.BreakTheRecord.org to read the book and learn how you can take action to help us end childhood sexual violence for good.
“Building Safe Futures: Solutions to end childhood sexual violence” is a comprehensive evidence review highlighting what works to prevent and respond to childhood sexual violence in low- and middle-income countries. This report was published by Safe Futures Hub – a joint initiative of Together for Girls, WeProtect Global Alliance, and the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI).
This research provides critical guidance for investments, legislative action, policy development, and program implementation to reduce the prevalence and impact of childhood sexual violence. It ensures that advocates, policymakers, and frontline workers worldwide can access, adapt, and apply effective solutions to end this crisis.
